MetroMath Center is committed to developing a robust pipeline of teachers qualified to participate in the MU seminar as well as engage in action research that allows them to grow, reflect and develop as mathematics teachers. Towards this end, the Center runs Teacher Fellow programs in all three universities.
Each MetroMath Team at The Graduate Center, Rutgers University and the University of Pennsylvania has developed individually-tailored programs for selected teacher leaders, aligned with MetroMath's focus, emphasizing conceptually challenging mathematics, and planned in partnership with each of the four urban partner school districts. The Teacher Fellows are drawn from the school districts of New York City, Newark, Plainfield, NJ and Philadelphia. The Teacher Fellows participate in professional development workshops emphasizing conceptually challenging mathematics, reading groups, and research projects throughout the year. Many of them have joined the MU seminar. In June, MetroMath hosts a Teacher Fellow Symposium at which the teachers present their work from the year to other Teacher Fellows from all three sites.
